Job Opening: Religious Education Coordinator

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Ames (UUFA) is currently seeking a Religious Education Coordinator (REC).

People come first at the UUFA.  We are looking for a candidate with:

  • A passion for nurturing and educating children: Responsible for religious education programing from birth through high school that supports youth in engaging and articulating Unitarian Universalist identity, culture, principles and values.
  • Planning and coordinating skills: Collaborate with the Minister and Religious Education Committee to; structure classrooms; select curricula for classrooms; plan yearly scope and sequence for classes; and coordinate special programs.
  • Skills to supervise and support staff and volunteers:  Hire train and coordinate child care providers; recruit train and support volunteer religious education teachers.  
  • Technical skills:  Use Microsoft Office and demonstrate a willingness/ability to learn other programs as needed.

15 hours to 20 hours per week, including required Sunday morning  and occasional evening/weekend hours.

Anticipated start date in May 2019.

$15.00 per hour minimum starting pay.


Position Description
The Religious Education (RE) Coordinator supports the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Ames (UUFA) Mission and RE Vision by ensuring that all parts of the RE program operate smoothly.

This is an hourly, part-time employee and reports to the UUFA Minister or a designated staff member. The RE Coordinator works 20 hours per week, 52 weeks per year. The RE Coordinator works on Sunday mornings, and other times as needed, including attending RE Committee meetings. The RE Coordinator assists the UUFA Minister and the RE Committee in planning and coordinating all aspects of the UUFA RE program.

The RE Coordinator will participate in professional development activities to further skills related to the position.

Required Qualifications

  • Professional experience and/or education in the field of child development, education, family services or a closely related field.
  • Be able to articulate and engage UU identity, culture, principles, and values.
  • Pass a background check.
  • Proficiency with common office and communication software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPR/First aid certification.
  • Mandatory reporter training.

Required Skills and Characteristics
Candidate must be able to:

  • Maintain a professional demeanor.
  • Enjoy working with children and families.
  • Clearly communicate in a professional manner.
  • Keep accurate records (e.g. time sheets, attendance records).
  • Follow the UUFA emergency procedures, if needed.
  • Follow UUFA policies and procedures, including RE safety guidelines.
