End Mountaintop Removal Coal Mining - Tuesday, March 9th

ACTION: Call to End Mountaintop Removal Coal Mining - Tuesday, March 9th!
More than 500 mountains and 1.5 million acres of land have already been destroyed by mountaintop removal coal mining and Appalachian coalfield residents face frequent catastrophic flooding, pollution, and loss of drinking water. Residents and supporters from across the US are asking for an end to mountaintop removal and an investment in sustainable economic alternatives for Appalachia.
This week, nearly 200 citizens from Appalachia and across the US are lobbying as part of the 5th Annual End Mountaintop Removal Week in Washington - and hundreds more will show support by making a simple phone call on March 9th. But the coal industry is also working overtime to block urgently needed legislation that would protect the mountains and its people. It's time to put our faith into action and take a stand for the mountains on Tuesday.
In 2006, the Unitarian Universalist Association passed an Action of Immediate Witness (AIW) called, "End Mountaintop Removal Coal Mining."
