Small Group Ministry (SGM)

Small Group Ministry provides an opportunity to get better acquainted with Ames Unitarian Universalists; an opportunity to discuss (both talk and listen) spiritual growth through topics such as sacred places, learning from failure, yearning, radical hospitality, our gifts, community building, and others; an opportunity to join other UUs to do a service project.  SGM is different than other experiences at the UUFA.  These small groups of 6-10 people are content-driven discussions led by a lay facilitator that stretch us to grow as individuals and as a faith community.

Evensong ~ Begins on Sunday, February 24th 3:30 to 5:00 pm. An eight session small group ministry, Evensong, will meet twice monthly at the Fellowship beginning on February 24.  This series will explore individual life journeys through sharing, thoughts, experiences, doubts, and current beliefs.  This small group ministry focuses on attentive and compassionate listening.  Evensong is a good way to explore personal beliefs and possibilities and a great way to get to know a group of people. To enroll, please contact the office at uufa@uufames.org.

Women’s Spirituality Group

Begins Tuesday, February 24, 7:00 – 8:30 pm. The group will meet the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month at the UUFA. Breaking Free, edited by UU Minister Marilyn Sewell, is the resource for readings and discussions in this group.  The Women’s Spirituality Group facilitation is a collaboration of the time and talents of Lori Allen, Debby Garwood, Deb Kline, and Donna Lutz.  This is an open group that calls participants to a deeper understanding of self by examining our lives through reading and/or listening to the essays and then discussion and sharing in the group.  No pre-registration required.   The group will meet through the end of May, 2013. Contact Lori Allen (dycm AT uufames DOT org) if you have any questions.  The book is available for $20 at the first few sessions, or it is available on Kindle through Amazon.com. Breaking Free is a groundbreaking anthology for women searching for spiritual guideposts, comprised of twenty-seven personal and daring essays by some of our time’s finest women writers.  Contributors include:  Maya Angelou, Erica Jong, Andre Lorde, Gloria Steinem, Isabel Allende, M.F.K. Fisher, Terry Tempest Williams, Barbara Hurd.
